Entry: New Photos Sunday, May 02, 2004

Valborg (31.April) and May Day (International Workers' Day, 1st May) were celebrated in Sweden this weekend. I took the opportunity to photograph Lund and Kävlinge, flags, Bronze Age burial mounds, flowers, stuffed pigs et cetera, to catch the spring time atmosphere. Click the little Swedish flags to get to the online photo gallery.

Eli 30 000 on koko kunta, ja 9 570 ('91) on itse Gislaved.

Joo, ammutaan kaikki pois, niin on vihdoinkin rauhaa.

Try fitting 30 000 people into Gislaved, and it'll be like Wunstorf (almost - W. has about 40 000 residents, which is pretty small for Germany).

Anyway, your arse is 'Hicksville', Kävlinge is not ... I mean, come on, you've been to *Teckomatorp*!

I always thought that Gislaved had around 30 000 inhabitants, but apparently that's the whole "kommun" (municipality? county?) ... Anyway, I meant "village" in a metaphorical way, not as an exact term but more as an impression. Like "Hicksville".

How big was Lund at Tegnér's time?

And I don't think Gislaved can be called a village, either. Do villages usually have big tyre factories or enormous slaughterhouses and TWO potato factories? (Okay, Gislaved doesn't have any tyre factory today, but it wasn't long ago that they did.) Stillingsön is a village. But Svanesund already starts getting a bit towny, although it should still be classified as a village ... Whereas Stenungsund is a town.

Some statistics:
Kävlinge - 6 158 residents (1997)
Gislaved - 9 570 (1991)
Anderstorp - 4 711 (1988)
Stenungsund - "about 10 000" (Wikipedia 2004)
Svanesund - 1 756 (1998)
Orust total - 15 133 + 40 000 badjävlar in the summer months (1998)

Anyway, I would argue that the term 'academic village' is slightly allegoric in its use. Only Muscovites would call Lund a 'village' ...

I WOULD call Gislaved a village. Somebody called Lund an academic village. (Tegnér?)

Some of Boss Hog's songs are pretty okay, but I mostly just like the band's name. >:(:)

Kävlinge is a TOWN, not a village. Would you call Gislaved a village? Kävlinge is about the same size, maybe bigger.

Ha ha, it looks like I have enormous boobs in the 'shoujo kakumei Tinet' picture, because of my jacket ...

Anyway, the close-ups of the water are nice. And my piggies, of course.
